"I BELIVE THAT EVERYTHING HAS BEEN INVENTED. EVERYTHING EXISTS, IT IS ONLY NECESSARY TO GIVE IT ANOTHER TWIST AND TAKE IT OUT OF CONTEXT".
Born in Mora, Toledo, in 1960, dEmo is a self-taught artist whose interests began when he conceived a doll made of springs, nuts, and pliers. With extensive knowledge and enthusiasm for art, he is also renowned for his role as a collector.
As a multidisciplinary artist, dEmo has primarily focused his work on sculpture, designed primarily for public spaces. He manages to transform everyday objects, common utensils, and toys rescued from our collective memory into authentic icons. This domestic iconization is one of the main characteristics of his artistic work.
Bears, ducks, divers, flowers, rhinoceroses, cows, pigs, cats, robots, all rendered in vibrant flat colors, often reaching enormous dimensions and frequently incorporating repetitions of the same element, populate dEmo's visual world. His intention is to captivate the audience with humor, while promoting greater ecological awareness, never losing sight of the fact that sculpture is not just an object, but a question and a catalyst for thought.
His works have been exhibited in cities around the world, including IVAM (Valencia), Museo Baroja (Gijón), Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Santo Domingo Cifuentes (Guadalajara), Museum Arterra Contemporary (Vienna, Austria), Museo de Bellas Artes de la Habana (Cuba), and Museo MACAY de arte contemporáneo de Yucatán (Mexico), among others.
In 2016, he was selected to create the 'Tegesta' trophies for the Miami Fashion Week film festival, which were presented for the first time in 2017. He has also designed awards for Fuenso Shoe Design Awards, International Video Art Festival of Gijón, Motor and Aula of El Mundo newspaper, Women Together in New York, among many others. He has collaborated with brands such as Franck Müller, Omega, Swatch, Rolls Royce, and Scalpers.
